July 28, 2010 update:
- Opening Thanksgiving weekend 2010
- We finished our mechanized tree culturing today. The harvest crop looks great. Even if things turn dry in August, we have plenty of water in storage to irrigate and keep the crop healthy.
- New stock for the Christmas store has been coming in every few weeks.
- Striving to make our already "green" farm even greener:
Our REAL Christmas trees are, of course, a 100% renewable crop
Last summer we installed 54 solar panels. We are on track to produce 11,000 kWhrs of electricity in our first year. If you have a south facing roof, look into a solar array. With the Ontario Feed-in Tariff program rules it can be an attractive investment. The Owen Sound branch of www.sunvoltssolar.com did an excellent job for us.
Geothermal HVAC has been used on the farm since 1990. Both our farm homes are heated and cooled this way. Visit www.halton.ourpower.ca for more information.
Since 1994 the farm has used two off-road plug-in electric vehicles to get around.
